BMC is proactively committed to environmental responsibility, with initiatives developed to take priority during operational tenure in the local community. With a 10 year mine life, the KZK project is focused on sustainability and environmental preservation, for future generations to enjoy the land whilst finding monetary opportunity in its development.
The Native Plant Nursery and Food Production Project
In a collaboration, BMC and the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency will fund Dena Cho Environmental and Keefer Ecological Service’s Ross River project. Exploring the need for silviculture, agriculture and reclamation work in the Kaska territory.
The project will utilise the knowledge and practices of the traditional owners, for revegetation efforts in the area. To produce native species seeds and seedlings, exploring options for food crop potential to reduce reliance on transported foods that have to travel vast distances.
Environmental Stewardship
In November 2016, BMC were awarded the annual Robert E Leckie award for ‘Responsible and Innovative Exploration and Mining Practice’, at the 44th Yukon Geoscience Forum Awards Banquet in Whitehorse, Yukon.
A prestigious award recognising mining companies and operators who utilise modern operations and reclamation practices to show outstanding social responsibility.
